Shogun – Review: The Best Drag & Drop Page Builder for Shopify

November 22, 2019 in E-commerce ‎Tag : Apps & Hacks

Designing the pages of your e-commerce shop is often not easy. Thanks to Shogun, it is very easy to create great pages.

Page builders are very popular since the appearance of WordPress and the possibility that this CMS offers to build websites very easily.

But there are currently many solutions available to create pages that are attractive, mobile-friendly and functional without the need for technical knowledge in programming or web design.

And this is also the case in the e-commerce environment. Even if it’s very easy to set up shops quickly thanks to Shopify, creating pages is not necessarily affordable for everyone.

You’ve probably already encountered the frustration of not being able to create a page like you had in mind?

Fortunately, whether it’s on Shopify, WooCommerce, Prestashop or other, the page builders are developed enough to meet the needs of every shop manager, including you!

Today, I would like to talk to you about Shogun, one of the best page builders dedicated to e-commerce.

Shogun, what is it?

Designed from the ground up to allow everyone to design optimized e-shops, Shogun has since developed well and is now able to offer you much more, we’ll see all that.

This solution is so popular that it is ranked in the top 3 of the best Shopify applications in the « Page builders » category with nearly 1800 positive reviews!

The team that works for Shogun is made up of 33 members and they improve this application so that anyone can easily create high conversion rate e-commerce pages with a pleasant shopping experience.

Shogun also allows you to design your online store pages with a library of elements that you can drag and drop anywhere and at your convenience, much like Elementor for WordPress.

We have seen that it offers much more than basic page construction, but what exactly is it about? To know this, it’s enough to understand all the power of Shogun.

An advanced page builder with practical features

Dozens of customizable elements

Whether you want to create landing pages, product pages or the U.X. of your blog, Shogun offers you blocks that allow you to customize each page.

It is very easy to create beautiful pages that respect the branding of your shop!

The fact that Shogun simplifies the layout process means that there is no code knowledge required to achieve this. Instead, you have access to a well-designed interface that allows you to adjust your pages to mobile, tablet and computer formats.

And if you are like me very often in need of inspiration, the Shogun team has planned everything with the possibility of importing pre-designed page templates, there are about thirty of them at the moment.

There are them for all types of e-commerces, whether they are generalist or nested!

Measure page performance

Shogun also provides you with useful statistics and metrics to identify your best selling pages that convert best.

Thanks to the statistics interface, you have access to your number of sales and visitors, your conversion rate, add to card, the bounce rate and other data depending on the devices used.

This feature is mainly used to measure the impact of actions you implement for your sales or landing pages!

Create page variants and A/B tests

If you are not familiar with A/B tests, the principle is very simple. It’s a matter of creating several pages (at least two), with minimal differences such as button colors, calls to action or element positioning.

A/B tests are perfect to identify, thanks to the statistics that Shogun provides you, the variants that convert best and then create new variants, improve your conversion rate, etc.

This is one of the most effective methods to increase the conversion rate of your online store!

Since Shopify does not offer this option by default, the fact that it is integrated with Shogun is very welcome, since the functionality is also well designed.

You can create A/B tests to improve adding to cart, submitting forms (to retrieve emails or quotes for example) and clicking on a button or a call to action.

Other features

Indeed, there are several other small options and features that you can use to improve your working method:

  • Work with a team where each member will have a specific role and will not be able to interact with the important elements of your shop.
  • Launch an SEO audit to identify potential problems that could be harmful to your presence on search engines.
  • Synchronize multiple stores and manage them directly from the Shogun interface, ideal for multilingual or to separate development and production versions.
  • Programs the posting of certain pages in order to avoid updating your pages when there is a peak of traffic.

Shogun is a very complete page builder that is compatible with many e-commerce solutions. Among them, of course Shopify but not only since it is also available on BigCommerce, Saleforces Commerce and Magento.

Finally, if you want to create new elements, a suite of development tools is at your disposal!

How to get started with Shogun in 3 steps?

1. Install the Shogun app

To start using Shogun, you must first know on which e-commerce platform you plan to use it. This is most likely Shopify, which is really the most complete solution to start an online store.

The installation goes smoothly and the application is accessible immediately afterwards, you are then on the interface where everything happens:

On the left, the menu to navigate through the different features such as managing your account and working with your team, the settings and the help page.

The interface is super simple and very ergonomic!

2. Create or import your first page

At this point, you don’t have a page configured in Shogun yet. Fortunately, you can of course import the existing pages of your shop to modify only those you want.

Simply click on « Create Page » to create a new page or « Import a page » to search and synchronize one or more pages you already use.

Following this, you have the possibility to create four types of pages:

  • Standard Page – This category can correspond to the about or contact page.
  • Blog Post – To modify the individual display of articles and the list of the different publications of your blog.
  • Product Pages – It’s here to edit your product pages and improve their appearance.
  • Collection – The last option allows you to create custom collection pages.

In most cases, you will start by modifying your product pages or a standard page to try the Shogun editor.

3. Design your new page

Once you have chosen which type of page you want to update or simply create, you just have to choose between starting a blank page, or using a template from the thirty available templates:

The templates allow you to start a design in almost any e-commerce theme.

After choosing a landing page or a normal page with the top and bottom menu, you find yourself on the page editor which is very easy to use.

To build the page as you wish, simply drag and drop the Shogun elements to your right. You get an overview of the final rendering on computer, mobile and tablet thanks to the top menu.

Once the design is validated, you can choose several options to create variants, schedule the publication or access statistics.

What is the price of Shogun for Shopify?

The Shogun plugin is available in the Shopify App Store with 3 plans, each offering different functionalities to allow everyone to find the right offer.

The basic plan at $39 per month will suit most needs since Shogun gives you access to unlimited editing, page templates, SEO audit and all basic features.

The second one at $99 per month is more dedicated to e-commerce agencies since it allows, among other things, to unlock the multi-site, development tools and analytical suite.

My review of Shogun – Should you use it for your e-commerce shop?

Page builders are particularly appreciated because they provide the possibility to design websites and online shops very easily without having to buy and configure an e-commerce theme, or know how to code.

It’s indeed very practical and Shogun does not deviate from this rule, the 1800 positive reviews on the page of the application shows it.

Not to mention the time you save by using a solution like this, you can update, add pages to your e-commerce store easily.

In addition to the page editor which is Shogun’s biggest strength, the ability to easily perform A/B tests and create page variants is also one of the great advantages of this page builder.
