Tracking has many advantages, but setting up for e-commerce is often problematic. ePacket is there to solve this problem.
A tracking system is nowadays essential and all serious Shopify e-commerce now provide their customers the possibility to easily track the position of their order.
Setting it up is an easy way to reduce your customer service, which may receive dozens of emails and messages daily.
Several delivery methods are available when you order on Aliexpress. Among them, ePacket which allows your customers to track their packages very easily!
What is ePacket delivery and how does it work?
ePacket is a standard shipping method that many Asian suppliers and wholesalers provide.
Why Asian you could ask? Because ePacket delivery is widely used to deliver packages directly from China. This is the fastest way to deliver internationally.
However, it is important to note that not all sellers on Aliexpress provide this method of sending packages…
This depends on the direct will of the seller but also because ePacket delivery is only dedicated to small parcels, with standards. Among these standards are:
- The weight of the package which must be less than 2kg
- The price of the package which must be less than $400
- Or the size of the package which must be less than 90x60cm
ePacket is today the most efficient shipping solution if you import from China.
You will of course only be able to deliver small packages, but as long as there is a good chance that your shop will offer a majority of them, you can enjoy ePacket.
What are the advantages of ePacket?
Although there are disadvantages, ePacket largely dominates other similar delivery methods and there was only one low-cost solution before it.
A solution that delivered to your home in generally 1 month… in addition to being exorbitant if you wanted to be delivered faster.
So the main reason for ePacket’s success is due to its significant advantages:
- Much faster than its competitors, it offers deliveries in 10 to 20 days instead of several weeks or even months for some shipping methods
- Mostly cheaper even if some delivery methods are even less expensive but of lower quality
- Free return of undelivered items
- One of the best tracking systems thanks to the ability to track the position of the package in real time
ePacket is an essential solution to consider when you choose your products on Aliexpress. But how do you know that a merchant provide ePacket delivery?
Setting up tracking on Shopify
The first step to set up tracking on your dropshipping store is to find suppliers offering the ePacket shipping.
1. Find ePacket products
Fortunately you can do it very easily by using the free Shopify app DSers. To do so, simply download their respective extensions and configure them to filter the delivery modes.
I advise you to source your products directly from Oberlo, because you will be sure to have ePacket shipments. Then you can synchronize them on DSers very easily in one click.
Once your products have been selected, there are still a few more small steps before fully automating tracking on your Shopify store.
2. Send the tracking number to customers
In order for your customers to be able to access the real-time position of their order, they will need to be given the tracking number. To do so, you will need the number provided with each order.
AfterShip is a Shopify app allowing you to get this precious number. It’s easy to use and free of charge for up to 100 orders per month.
To send the number manually without going through the above application, you will need to change the Shopify settings in the confirmation email.
3. Know the position of a package
To know the position of an order, there are several solutions. The one I recommend is using 17track to easily track any package but also to know if it’s stuck at customs authority (which is very rare) and other problems.
However, there are other alternative platforms that you can use…
Customs issues with ePacket
As I mentioned above, it may happen that some packages are temporarily blocked in customs for verification. This is not a problem with ePacket, but a normal procedure for products coming from China.
Even if it is rare, this parameter must be taken into account to improve your users’ shopping experience.
Customs clearance is a mysterious process, probably random so don’t panic if a package from one of your customers is blocked…
I advise you to inform your customers when their order is blocked at customs because they may have to pay a small tax that you will of course have to refund.
Nothing problematic if you play it transparent!
That’s it, you are now able to provide a tailor-made tracking service for your customers. I still prefer this delivery method, which offers great flexibility, peace of mind and many advantages.
Setting up tracking is a good thing for your e-commerce store. It reduces the time spent answering emails, increases your satisfaction rate and improves the image that users have of your shop!
